Will John Cena Turn Heel?

Ever since the rivalry between the WWE Superstars, mainly John Cena, and the Nexus started, fans have been talking about how John Cena might turn heel and join the Nexus. It brings back to memories the days of the WCW-ECW invastion. Stone Cold Steve Austin turned heel and joined The Alliance.

Invasion storylines are one of the most entertaining in professional wrestling. The plots are always full of twists and turns. And, it drastically changes the profile of the roster in the locker room. Heels turn faces, faces turn heel, superstars on the sidelines become heroes, and it is nothing but war. Vince McMahon who was a heel before the WCW-ECW invasion turned face and his children, Shane and Stephanie, who were faces until the invasion turned heels.

Talking about heel turns, let us also look at one very peculiar type of heels. A WWE Superstar can be a heel for so many reasons. The various ways of turning a superstar into a heel include getting him to betray his friend, make him manipulative, give him ring-side strategists, let him misuse power etc.

However, if a superstar wants to take the easy way out and become a heel all he has to do is insult the fans. Call them fat, stupid, poor, jobless, addicted, ugly etc. and you become an instant heel. A lot of superstars have done that. Edge used this to become a heel in less than a week when he was drafted from Smackdown to Raw. Chris Jericho did it and continues to do it. So does CM Punk, The Miz and many others.

Fans often find the fan-insulting heels to be boring very often. It is not the case with tough, evil heels. They are hated, but never considered boring. Vince McMahon has been a good example of such a heel - a heel that misuses power. The Nexus, today, have proved again that it is not necessary to insult the fans to be hated by the fans. Another example is Randy Orton.

Back to our topic of discussion. Will John Cena turn heel and join the Nexus? If he does, we will certainly see a never-before-seen side of Cena. John Cena can be a powerful, manipulative, reckless heel. But let us hope that he doesn't take the easy way out and become just another fan-insulting heel. Doing so would belittle the stature of the pro-wrestler of the decade.
